Today was supposed to be a quick appointment with my primary to get surgical clearance. NYU faxed the pre-admission testing bloodwork and my white blood cell count is elevated. But here’s the thing: my white blood cell count is almost always elevated.
Since this surgery is kind of a big deal, my primary doctor wants me to see my hematologist before she clears me. Yes, I have a hematologist. I’m like grandma over here. I have poor iron absorption which throws my blood into a tizzy. Last year I had iron infusions so I’m wondering if it’s time again. I’m annoyed about it but that also might be the lack of solid food in my stomach talking.
I also had to run over to Zwanger for a chest x-ray. Just to make sure my lungs are clear and there’s no infection hiding out in there. Zwanger has a pretty sweet patient portal and I was able to immediately see the x-ray and report that everything is a-okay. Bonus: I get a creepy pic of my skeleton right before Halloween. (See below. Mwah ha ha ha.)
As far as liquids are going… I am cranky but not hungry. I like the chocolate shakes and really hate the vanilla. It’d be much better if I could blend it with strawberries or something. Alas, I cannot. I HAVE been adding about 1/2 tsp of McCormick pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves) and that makes it tolerable. (Does this make me a basic bitch?) Pumpkin spice protein shake for the win. I really shouldn’t be so complain-y. In the grand scheme of life, having to drink protein shakes is not really terrible. Beyond surgery, the diet is prepping my body for the upcoming weeks and months. I guess this is my blog and I can whine if I want to, but I don’t even want to deal with my whining.
I just want to get this over with already.
